Today marks the end of my highest volume week of Ironman training.
In the last 7 days, I have 18.5 hours of training (not including the prep, post stretches, etc), including
180 miles of biking (including 100 today - woohoo!)
40 miles running (with a long of 20)
5700 yards swimming (with a long of 4200)
and an hour of strength/core.
My typical week has included about 10 hours of training, so I'm essentially wiped out at this point and ready to taper (and sleep!)!
So I get a text message from IronJenny today saying that TriNick has a friend who says that Lake Zurich, in which I'll be swimming 2.4 miles in a couple of weeks, is right now 50 degrees F.
Jenny, are you effing with me? Please please tell me you are effing with me!!

Woohoo, Taper Time, or I call it Crazy mental time...
Your ready, good stats for the week..
Don't worry, you'll warm up after awhile during the swim.. If not, you want to be an IronMan right!!!
You'll do great...
it was a good week, now ALL HAIL THE TAPER! make sure to rest up and recover.
sounds like time to practice in that long sleeved wet suit. do you have one?? 50 is ccccccold!
great training week.
next stop, Zurich!
time to get a wetsuit!
Awesome week. Good job on the century. Are you wearing a wetsuit? How did the dance recital go last week?
It's almost here!!!! But wow, that's some cold water!
BRRRRRRRRRR!!! Really hoping you have/borrowed a wetsuit. I'm anxiously awaiting the report on this race!
Hi, TriJanck - he said 55 degrees. I was txting while driving. Don't tell anyone I do that. ;-)
He has a buddy who did a half IM there last weekend and they cut the swim so short (due to the cold water) that his total swim time was 8 minutes. Sounds like they cut it to 600 meters or something. Anyway, Nick, recommends we get neoprene caps.
sigh (of relief!!??)
oh man. that's cold.
what's the air temp there?
awesome training week!
enjoy the taper.
TriJack..
Woohooo..isn't it fun to go long :)
get a hot hat - the red one like I got for alcatraz - makes all the difference....
Well, look as it this way, the temp keeps going up. The initial text said 50, then Jenny tries to correct that by saying 55 when the whole time I said 57. The better news is, I saw a posting that said the water temp is moving up, slowly, so let hope for 2 more degrees.
Zoicks, that's still a cold swim!
Enjoy the taper!
